Asphalt Installation Services

Noble Cortes General Engineering installs new asphalt pavement for driveways, parking lots, private roads, and public surfaces across Northern California. We prepare the site, construct the base, place the asphalt, and compact it to a smooth, load-bearing finish.

Residential Asphalt Solutions

What Is Asphalt Installation?

Asphalt installation is the complete process of preparing a site and constructing a new asphalt pavement over a compacted foundation. It covers everything from excavation and base construction through asphalt placement and final compaction, which is the full build of a new paved surface.

Because NCGE self-performs the excavation, grading, and base work as a general engineering contractor, we control the entire structure, not just the paving step subcontracted at the end. That’s the difference between a commercial asphalt pavement built to carry heavy traffic for decades and a driveway that fails at the base within a few seasons.

Where Do We Install Asphalt Pavement?

We install new asphalt pavement for municipal, commercial, and residential property owners across Northern California, matching the pavement structure to how the surface will be used.

Commercial Asphalt Excellence
Public Works Infrastructure Contractors in north California

Commercial Asphalt Pavement

Commercial asphalt paving installation demands deeper structure, stronger base, and drainage built for heavy, repeated loads.

We install:

Residential Asphalt Pavement

Residential asphalt paving needs the same engineering discipline at a smaller scale with a properly compacted base and correct drainage that lasts years.

Common Asphalt Problems We Solve

NCGE specializes in addressing common asphalt issues that plague many Northern California properties:

Drainage Problems

Improper water management is the leading cause of asphalt failure. We design and implement drainage solutions that protect your asphalt investment from water damage.

Cracking & Deterioration

Our repair solutions address existing damage while our installation methods significantly reduce the likelihood of future cracking.

Subgrade Failures

Many contractors skip crucial base preparation. We ensure proper subgrade work that prevents the structural failures common in inferior asphalt jobs.

Oxidation & Aging

Our maintenance programs include sealcoating and preventative care that extends asphalt life by protecting against UV damage and oxidation.

Our Asphalt Paving Installation Process

Site Preparation

We clear the area and excavate to the depth the pavement structure requires, removing unsuitable soil and existing surfaces so the build starts on solid ground.

Subgrade Preparation

We compact and, where the soil is weak, stabilize the subgrade, which is the foundation that carries everything above it. We grade the site to the designed slope so water sheds off the finished surface instead of pooling on it.

Aggregate Base

We place and compact crushed-stone base and subbase to the specified depth. This is the structural layer that distributes traffic loads down to the subgrade — the step paving-only contractors most often shortcut.

Asphalt Placement

We apply a prime coat to the base and a tack coat between layers for a fully bonded structure, then our paver lays the hot-mix asphalt in controlled lifts while the screed sets each layer's thickness, grade, and smoothness.

Final Finishing

Steel-wheel and pneumatic rollers compact the asphalt to the required density in a planned rolling pattern, sealing the joints and producing a smooth, uniform surface ready for traffic.

Asphalt Materials and Pavement Structure

A finished asphalt pavement is a system of layers, each built from the right material:

Subgrade

It is the compacted soil foundation that supports the whole structure. — the compacted soil foundation that supports the whole structure.

Aggregate base & subbase

These are compacted crushed stone that distributes load and drains water away from the subgrade.

Binder course

The binder course is the structural asphalt layer that carries load between the base and the surface.

Surface (wearing) course

It is the top asphalt layer built to resist traffic and weather.

We build these layers from Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), aggregate bound with asphalt binder (bitumen), with warm mix asphalt available for cooler conditions or longer hauls, all bonded with prime and tack coats so the structure acts as one.

NCGE’s Quality Control During Asphalt Paving Installation

For asphalt paving installation, we verify base compaction before paving, place each asphalt lift to the specified thickness, and compact to the target density with the correct rolling pattern. This removes the air voids that let water in and cause early failure. On projects that require it, we confirm results with density testing and check the finished smoothness so the pavement meets spec before we hand it over. After all, an asphalt pavement is only as good as its density and thickness.

Why Choose NCGE for Asphalt Paving Installation Services?

NCGE provides asphalt paving installation backed by excavation, grading, base construction, drainage, and paving as one coordinated build, bringing public-works-grade standards to every project from a home driveway to a commercial lot. Where paving-only competitors subcontract the groundwork, we own the entire pavement structure. That’s the Noble Cortes Advantage™.

Asphalt Paving Frequently Asked Questions

How much is asphalt per square foot in North California?

Installed asphalt paving in North California runs $4.00 and $14.00 per square foot, which includes a standard gravel base and 2 to 3 inches of new asphalt. Sacramento & Central Valley ranges from $4.00 to $12.00 per square foot. Full Replacement (Tear-Out & Pave) can cost about $8.00 to $15.00 per square foot.

How much does 1 ton of asphalt cost?

One (1) ton of hot-mix asphalt runs between $90 to $160 per ton. However, depending on the type of asphalt, regional demand, and delivery needs, material costs can vary between $130 and $180 per ton.

Is 2 inches of asphalt enough for a driveway?

How much is asphalt per square foot in North California?

Two (2) inches can work for residential driveways with only passenger cars over a strong, thick gravel base. For heavy vehicles (mainly commercial, truck-heavy pavements), 2.5–3 inches is more promising because 2 inches tends to fail sooner.

When should you not lay asphalt?

You should not lay hot-mix asphalt in rain or when temperatures fall below about 50°F. We schedule around proper conditions.
